introduction

In the spring of 1868, a few years after the Civil War, a group of Christians begain gathering in homes to worship together. With no formal meeting space and no pastor, they decided to form a church, which they named Zoar. The name was inspired by Genesis 19:22, describing a small city of refuge to which Lot and his family fled.

150 years later, Zoar continues to be a place of refuge. Zoar is a beacon of light whose impact extends beyond the intersection of Hooper and Joor. We stretch our arms wide to reach those in our city, state, country, and around the world. The work of stretching our arms wide falls on each of us. We are a collective body of worshippers, but we are also individuals, families, and Sunday school classes.

You are the church. Zoar's legacy is your legacy. You contribute to it. You sacrifice for it. It's your investment time, talents, and resources that the Lord uses to proclaim His excellencies to the world. God has called you to be a missionary. The great preacher, Charles Spurgeon, said, "Every Christian is either a missionary or an imposter."

This page represents the mission points we currently send monthly support, but it is only a small representation of the countless churches and missionaires Zoar has supported over the years. We have been committed to sending out people to reach the nations for 150 years. We may not know the full impact we've had on the kingdom this side of heaven, but we can celebrate that God has blessed Zoar with the privilege of joining Him in His work of building His church.

As a church, Zoar not only GIVES toward missions, but Zoar is committed to providing opportunities and encouraging church members to GO and spread the Good News of the Gospel of Christ. We encourage you to be a passionate contributor to our legacy by praying ceaselessly, giving generously, and going to the nations to tell them about God who is our refuge. To Him be all the glory.
