Lori Smith was born in Spartanburg, SC to Sanford and Shirley Smith. At the age of 16, Lori surrendered her life to be whatever, to do whatever, and to go wherever, God led her. After completing her education at Clemson University and teaching for 3 years, God opened the doors for Lori to teach at Korea Christian Academy. Upon her return from Korea, Lori entered and graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, with a double Masters in Religious Education and Marriage and Family Counseling.
Lori has served in Texas over the last 25 years as a Minister of Childhood and Family Education, a High School counselor, and a Minister of Missions. While serving as Minister of Missions, Lori went on a vision trip to Mali, West Africa in 2000, and on that trip she prayed for God to give her the people of Mali as her inheritance according to Psalm 2:8. In January 2007, after seven years serving as Minister of Missions, Lori resigned her position to focus full-time on the development of a new ministry called Harvest Seekers International.
Harvest Seekers International (HSI) is a non-profit ministry that trains, mobilizes, and disciples volunteers to serve on the frontlines of missions. HSI has been working alongside churches and individuals in Mali and the USA to train and lead Christ followers to share God’s Story from village to village. We seek to partner with the church of Mali and churches in the USA to make Christ known among the many people groups who have little to no access to Him. Our vision is to establish a ministry led by Malians that are called by God to reach their own nation with the Good News of Jesus with the purpose of bringing all their countrymen into a saving relationship with Jesus and making true disciples of all who choose to follow Him.
God is fulfilling that vision by bringing together a team of Malian brothers and sisters that are passionate and filled with vision for God’s work. God, through that team and their partnership with HSI, has established an independent organization called Harvest Seekers Mali (HSM). HSM is working with the church of Mali to train, mobilize, and make true disciples Christ. They send out teams to do evangelism in villages that have never heard the Good News of Jesus, they spend time with new believers teaching them God’s Word and discipling them to walk powerfully by faith with God daily. HSM also engages in humanitarian aid projects for widows and orphans, areas stricken with famine, and helping with medical needs of those facing overwhelming illnesses.
Together, HSM, HSI, and our partnering churches from the USA have seen God draw countless people into a saving relationship with Him. We have seen those same people along with countless others walk into a deeper, world changing relationship of faith with God to serve and make Him known in Mali. We have seen God heal the sick, provide food for the hungry, free people from demon possession, and overcome evil with His faithful Presence.
